I chose not to reschedule my psychotherapy clients to attend the Not My President protest in Raleigh, NC today, and instead signed on to a small buy nothing boycott spanning from midnight last night through midnight tomorrow (Tuesday).
Nearly every client today is having stress from what is happening in our country, so the topic came up again and again. It’s a lot when people have this huge whole country stress piling on top of their more personal struggles.
Mid-day I just felt like I needed to do something symbolic since I wasn’t out marching with a sign.
My therapy office is my writing garret is my art studio (such as that is) so I glanced around, grabbed card stock and popsicle stick, and made myself a little sign. Yes, in between clients, I marched in a small circle with it and felt a little bit better.
After my last client, instead of wrapping up paperwork, I took the dogs out, walked, and enjoyed the sunshine for a bit. Now I’m back up here finishing the work day. Once I’m done I’ll do my phone calling to Congress people.
Tomorrow and all the days to come, I’m going to have my tiny sign in front of me.
I want to say a huge thank you to every single person who braved the cold, who was able to take off work or other obligations, and who marched for all of us. I will find a way to take some turns with that, but until then I’m with you all in spirit.
